Eight years after Air-Rifle Training & Competition, we are publishing a new book. Rules, equipment and shooting technique have all evolved and the scores have risen. Three out of five Olympic rifle medals are contested at 10 metres. It is time to take another look at everything.

However, it’s not just the content of our book that has changed. This programme is a multimedia resource. That means you can consult it on your smartphone, tablet or computer – any time, any place.

The book itself links to 425 videos, posters, forms and other content that is accessed with a single tap via a QR code. All you need to do is tap the QRs to transport yourself into an Olympic final, browse the official rules or view special training forms. That is pretty much unique for books like this right now.

At the heart of this programme are exercises. Over 500 different training tasks combine theory and practice, so it’s a case of read, watch, try out – and repeat...

This programme was put together during the coronavirus pandemic, between March 2020 and February 2023. We had more time than usual to write, take photographs, record videos and edit. More than anything else, we had time to talk and to design exercises.

The project is based on more than 60,000 photos and video sequences. Around one tenth of those are published. The most recent pictures are from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the Cairo 2022 World Championship.

This project is a joint effort. We’d like to offer our special thanks to Andrew Wood, Udo Daniel, Stefanie Beckmann, Denise Kotala and all the shooters whose photos appear in this book.
